Telegram messenger is a cross-platform free alternative for Whatsapp according to its Developers focuses on security and speed.
Here are the official Telegram client for Android, iOS, WP, Mac OS X, as well as for the desktop. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and quiet unofficial clients. The official Telegram Linux desktop app is not packaged for Ubuntu so to make it easier to install, PPA has created Lorenzo from atareao.es
The Telegram desktop application supports desktop notifications, stickers, (It has only few for now, But more will release soon), sending and receiving attachment like photos and documents, also you can listen or download received voice message trough.
Install Telegram Desktop in Ubuntu or Linux Mint via PPA
To add the Atareao Telegram PPA and install official Telegram Desktop application in Ubuntu / Linux Mint use following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/telegram
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install telegram
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install telegram
